Filtration Grade Perlite

TurkPerlite produces and exports filtration grade expanded perlite for use as a filter aid in solid-liquid separation. Milled and classified grades support the clarification of beer, wine, fruit juice, edible oils, chemicals and process water while balancing flow rate and particle retention.
During expansion, the combined water in perlite ore is released as vapor and creates a lightweight cellular structure. The expanded material is then milled and classified into controlled particle-size ranges to produce perlite filter aid grades with different flow and clarity characteristics.

The irregular particles interlock to form a porous, permeable filter cake that traps suspended solids without rapidly blinding the supporting screen or cloth. Filtration grade perlite can be used in pressure and vacuum filtration equipment, including filter presses, pressure leaf filters, candle filters and rotary vacuum drum filters.

Perlite filter aid is commonly used as a precoat, as body feed, or in both stages. The precoat creates a protective filtering layer on the septum. Body feed helps maintain cake porosity throughout the cycle, supporting consistent flow while suspended solids are retained.

The low bulk density and jagged particle structure of milled expanded perlite create numerous microscopic flow channels. This allows the filter cake to retain suspended solids while maintaining useful permeability, easy cake release and efficient filtration performance.

Perlite Filter Aid Applications

Filtration grade perlite is used for liquid clarification in beverage production, edible-oil processing, food manufacturing, chemical processing, industrial water treatment and wastewater applications. Product suitability depends on the liquid, suspended-solids profile, required clarity, filtration equipment and target cycle time.

Selecting the Appropriate Grade

Finer grades generally support higher clarity, while coarser grades generally provide higher flow. The optimum grade and dosage should therefore be confirmed through laboratory or plant filtration trials under actual operating conditions.
